How Do I Use a Referral Code that a Company Gave Me?

If you've been referred to apply through DonationMatch by one of our member companies, the easiest way to apply is to click through their referral link provided in a referral email or on their website, which automatically adds their referral code to your account. If to company did not use a link, you may go to "My Account" and use the "Add Referral Code" button to add a referral code that was sent to you. This will apply the code to all organization profiles under your management.

Why does a referral code matter? Some companies prioritize giving to organizations who they personally referred to DonationMatch, so being tagged this way may increase your chances of having your request approved or receiving offers from them. 

What does NOT happen with a referral code?

  • The DonationMatch system does NOT automatically request items from referring companies on your behalf, simply because we cannot tell whether what they make available is suitable for your event. You must still go to "Find Donations" to see what you qualify for in our system (from the referring company AND others), and request the donation(s) you want.
  • A referral code does NOT circumvent a donor company's eligibility criteria. You must still qualify according to what the donor has set as donation preferences. If at first you do not qualify and later criteria are ever changed to the point where you do, you would be able to see and request their donation(s) in Find Donations, so it is important to periodically check Find Donations for new donors and existing ones whose inventory or criteria have been updated!
